When was the last time you took a walk? And I don’t mean to the bus stop or your local shop or around the block. When was the last time you went for a stroll, took a breath of fresh air and felt a sense of purity around you? It’s easy to get sucked into the concrete jungle and forget there’s more to life than pavement and gadgets.
Picture this, a beautiful Sunday morning, blue skies, gentle breeze, fresh air and great company. Sound good? Get your sneakers on; we are going for a walk.
Despite living in Nairobi for a couple of years now, I hadn’t been to Ngong forest. So when I heard about the excursions courtesy of Ngong Forest Adventures I had to make time, this was my chance.
We all met up at the Ngong forest entrance and after some introduction, set off into the woods. Weaving through the paths, ducking under protruding branches. Watching butterflies fly by, and marveling at the species of trees as we went along.
It was lovely hearing about the forest from one who knows the place like the back of his hand, thanks to the love of adventure and getting lost a couple of times in the vast expanse. A great guide, Jason took us through the forest and we had lots of laughs as we got to know each other a little better.
It’s amazing how people from all walks of life can bond over nature. One sniff of the crisp air and you are hooked. A few hours later we were back to base. Alex met us on our way back. Oh what a spread she had prepared for us.
We had a lovely time feasting as we chatted away. It was like family lunch on a Sunday afternoon. Bodies refreshed and hearts warmed. The perfect way to spend a weekend away from the bustle of life.
